League - AFC Urmston Meadowside Eagles v Unicorn Falcons
Sun 20th March 2011 - KO 10:30
Subs: Aaron, Clevon
Missing Due to Injuries: Sean, Eddie, Nico
The pitch was in reasonable conditon considering all the recent fixtures played. A bit sticky on top, raininig at first but soon dried up. Our run of results have been win, lose, win, lose and so it goes on, we were due a win in this case! How did things pan out?
First Half:
End to end football from the start, lots of midfield play and not much down the wings. Unicorn gain the upper hand for about 5 minutes and we weather the storm quite well. Then we start to get back into the game and our shots on goal start! Numerous chances either rushed or closed down, but it was Chris who gets the first goal for Eagles, some nice play down the left hand side, Chris somehow sneaked the ball passed the keeper and into the net, his celebration to the non existent 'fans' on our side was quite comical! Cheers Chris! Eagles had Unicorn shaken for a little while after the goal, but slowly they got back into the game but we defended fairly well. Eagles attacked when the chances presented them selves and Unicorn did the same, this was a good game only marred by the number of free kicks slowiing the game to a crawl at times. Unicorn finished off this half with an attack and a shot that was too high and wide, then the half time whistle was blown.
Shots on Goal: (On target on or not)
Eagles: 8 (Lincoln, Dom, Chris, Travis, Joe T)
Falcons: 4
Team talk given, drinks drunk, off we go again.
Second Half:
Unicorn come out of the trap better than we did in this half, within minutes they win a free kick and soon after score the equaliser from a great individual effort, dribbling past 3 or 4 Eagles players, due to some almost 'statuesque' defending!
1-1. Soon, Eagles attacked, Aaron shoots, but then Unicorn come back at us, their ball possession making us work hard and defend. It was our turn to be shaken for a while, but we made some changes and started to get back in to the game, and settle down. Eagles had the upper hand for the last 10 minutes or so, with Unicorn breaking free every now and then but all to no avail. We got our best chances during this period, but we did not capitilise on them! The result was a 1-1 draw. Our first draw for a long time!
Shots on Goal: (On target on or not)
Eagles: 5 (Aaron, Andy)
Falcons: 4
Summary:
If my 'minimal' notes are correct then it looks like (on paper) we had more 'chances' to finish this game off than Unicorn did. Our team performance was much better than last week (about 80% there!) but there is still room for improvement. The Unicorn keeper made 3 saves, Rob made 4 saves (a couple were long distance Unicorn shots) This stat alone suggest our shots were not always on target and we did not make the Unicorn keeper work as much as we should have done! Again, something to work on. A draw was probably a fair result, all in all this was a good match played in the right spirit by both teams.
Our next two fixtures are back to back against Meds Meteors, and despite what anyone thinks, these games will not be a walk in the park! So lets have everyone putting in maximum effort at training and during the actual fixtures!
Result: 1-1
Goal Scorer: Chris 1
