26/2/11 Meds vs Sale Utd AWAY - Friendly

26/2/11 Meds vs Sale Utd AWAY - Friendly

Another friendly arranged this week against a very good Sale team who beat us 5-1 at the start of the season and who have only lost 2 games all year.

And what a good game it was!

With a heavy pitch - but at least no rain- it was difficult to get the passing and dribbling going. Sale's good strong play created the first goal with Meds missing a number of tackles. We were making chances at the other end but their defence and good keeping kept us out. By the end of the first period, Sale had got another and it ended 2-0. The break came at a good time as our heads were starting to go down.

The second period started with a better tempo - players seemed quicker to the ball - but again some good play by Sale put pressure on resulting in a penalty to them. It was scored - with no chance from Pat in goal - and they went 3-0 up.  The positions of players could have been better!

But then came the come back....2 quick goals came from Louis and this seemed to shake Sale. With an injury to their goalkeeper too- it seemed to upset their rhythm and Meds continued to pass the ball around better. Another good goal from James brought the score back to 3-3. But it did not end there !

Sale also got another to take a 4-3 lead and then came 2 successive penalties for Meds given by the referee - one for a handball and the other for a challenge in the box.

Ethan stepped up and slotted home his first Meds goal with a well taken penalty and Max took the 2 nd again giving the keeper no chance. This pushed us into the lead and there was still Sale pressure on our goal but some good defending and keeping by Alex kept Sales chances limited. A final goal from Meds was a cracker - a strong shot into the top corner from Rob!

The result was a 6-4 win against an excellent Sale team. It was pleasing to see how much the team have developed over the last few months. Although the teams heads started to go down at the end of the first period , it was brilliant to see their desire to get back into the game. It is more satisfying to see a narrow win in a tough game like this and coming back so well. Again there were 5 different scorers in the game which shows we don't rely on any one striker.

Man of the match for his display in defence and first goal for the team was Ethan. Well done !
