League Cup - AFC Urmston Meadowside Meteors v AFC Urmston Meadowside Eagles

Sun 20th Feb 2011 - KO 10:30 AM

Subs: Sean, Kaelan, Andy, Joe B, Aaron

Quarter finals of the League Cup and playing away due to this fixture being postponed numerous times. A derby against Meteors who won't want to allow us a result anything like the last result agains them! The pitch very muddy and sticky down the center of the field and not too bad down the wings. Weather dry but quite cold.

First Half:
Eagles come out of the traps quite well, getting a shot on goal early on and a free kick. Then we look half asleep when Meteors break from the back and score the first goal! 1-0. Meteors start off with confidence after their goal but it was not long before Eagles started to 'click' and get into thir stride. Eagles corner, a bit of a goal mouth scramble sees Dominic slot the ball through a defenders legs to score the equaliser! 1-1. Then Eagles mount attack after attack, corners and shots but no goals! Meteors break from midfield now and then and get a shot on goal but it goes wide. Eagles attack again and win a corner, Joe T is up there with a header and puts Eagles in the lead! 1-2. Another Eagles shot on goal by Aaron and then Meteors shot on goal brings the half time whistle.

Team talk given and the lads under instruction to concentrate and make sure they don't become sloppy on the ball in the second half.

Second Half:
Not long from the kick off and Chris scores our third goal 1-3. Another attack soon after the restart sees Clevon cross the ball in and Chris is there at the back post to slot it home 1-4. From here on the game goes a bit flat and scrappy. Lots of free kicks going either way, tired legs kicking in because the pitch is hard going. Eagles having chances on goal, Aaron, Andy, Travis, Jordan, Clevon and Kaelan all trying to increase the score. Meteors only managing two shots during this half never really looked as if they could get back in the game, but credit to them they did not give up and did keep trying.

Summary:
The pitch was not condusive to 'great' football. Both teams played some good stuff at times, Eagles kept Meteors at bay for the best part of the game and made sure Rob did not have too much to do in nets. Some great performances (in no particular order) from Travis, Clevon, Eoin, Joe T, Joe B, Eddie, Chris, Ryan and everyone else also! Overall we did what was needed to get us through to the semi finals. Well done to all and rest any injuries before next week!

Result: 1-4 smile

Goal Scorers: Dom 1, Joe T 1, Chris 2
