Urmston Town Panthers v AFC Urmston Meadowside Eagles

With the loss last week against Oswald Road still fresh in our minds, typically, our whole squad turns up for the local derby with both teams wanting the bragging rights at their schools on Monday. The lads have to put in the same perfomance we did in the last half of last week, be more clinical with our shooting and passing and work extremely hard as a team. How did things pan out in the end?

Subs: Olly, Jordan, Eoin, Clevon, Chris

First Half:

Panthers came out strong in the first 10 minutes or so. Eagles doing everything they could to keep them at bay and then breaking when possible to mount our own attacks. 15 minutes gone and Eagles have a free kick, Travis takes and hits the crossbar, I am too busy writing, I look up and we have scored! Dominic got a header and it ended up in the net! 0-1. Sorry Dom, I missed that one! For the next 15 minutes or so, it's all Eagles with Panthers looking shaky. Panthers get back in to the game for a while and then Eagles come back at them. Eagles mount an attack and Lincoln shoots, saved for a corner, corner taken and Nico header but wide! Half Time whistle is blown.

Shots on Goal:
Urmston Town: 3
Eagles: 6

Drinks drunk, orange slices ignored this week, half time talk given. More of the same basically and don't lose concentration!

Second Half:
For the first half we played 4,5,1 and decided to go 4,4,2 in this half and change it back if it was not working. Well Panthers came at us and at us, so we changed it back to 4,5,1. Looking back through my notes, the first 10 minutes or so were all Panthers. Slowly, Eagles get back into the game and attack when they could, Panthers breaking free every now and then but not really getting anywhere due to some solid and determined Eagles defending in all areas. Eagles just edged it in this half and there were 2 or 3 excellent chances that we should have finished off but did not. The full time whistle is blown during a Panthers attack and Eagles players are delighted to have won this one!

Excellent performance from every single Eagles player on the pitch today. This was not a 'pretty' game to watch, it was scrappy at times, the ball was probably in the air more than it was on the ground. Someone said today, 5-0, 10-0 or 1-0 win it does not matter, a win is a win at then end of the day. A clean sheet is something to be proud of also, and not just  the keeper. Superb performance from Travis who deserved MOTM, well done to everyone though. Give your self a pat on the back and enjoy the bragging rights this week at school. Next week's fixture (League Cup) is against Urmston Meadowside Meteors @ Flixton fields, another derby! an inter club derby!

Shots on Goal:
Urmston Town: 5
Eagles: 8

Result: 0-1 (Away Win) smile

Goal Scorer: Dominic

MOTM: Travis

Well done, Robert (clean sheet!), Nico, Joe T, Ryan, Joe B, Eddie, Clevon, Dominic, Lincoln, Chris, Andy and Aaron.
