County Cup - Meadowside Eagles v Meadowside Meteors
County Cup - AFC Urmston Meadowside Eagles v AFC Urmston Meadowside Meteors
Sun 9th Jan 2011 - KO 10:30 AM
Subs: Sean, Eddie, Jordan, Travis
Our last fixture was back in October! The weather has been against anyone playing football. The lads have been training when the weather allowed. After such a long breal we find ourselves playing against Meteors, not only a derby but an inter club derby! How will today's fixture turn out. Bright, chilly day, pitch in very good condition.
First Half:
Eagles came out of the trap like a team possessed! Meteors did will to keep us at bay for a good 20 minutes. Shots on goal from Aaron, Olly and Dom either saved or off target. The stalemate was broken after 20 mins with Aaron breaking through the Meteors defence with some tricky ball play and scores! 1-0. Not long after the restart, Eagles attack again and win a corner, it was well taken and Dom was in the box to head home his first goal in a long time! 2-0. Meteors broke free a few times trying their best to even things out but Eagles defended well and kept them out. Aaron and Lincoln work well together to see Lincoln strike a wonder goal, not chance of stopping that shot! 3-0. Eagles kept attacking, Chris was next to score with a lovely left foot finish 4-0. More Eagles attacks, Dom flicks the ball up to head height, and strikes a cracking volley and bags his second of the day! 5-0. More Eagles attacks, and this time Travis fancies a shot on goal and it pays off! 6-0. Meteors win a free kick which breaks down and the half time whistle is blown. Players who had shots on goal that were either saved or off target, Chris, Travis, Joe B, Lincoln. A cracking performance from everyone.
Free Kicks: 8
Eagles Shots on Goal: 16
Meteors Shots on Goal: 1
Team talk given, drinks drunk and orange slices scoffed, the lads go back on to carry on with more of the same.
Second Half:
With six goals in the bag, the game was really over. But this is football and strange things have and can happen. Meteors came back into the game and stopped Eagles scoring as many as they did in the first half. Actually, the goal post did a good job stopping Eagles scoring more as well as Meteors keeper! In parts, this half was a bit scrappy, a few free kicks but certainly not due to nasty fouls from either side. Jordan bagged our 7th. Meteors scored their goal from a corner, a bit of sloppy defending from us but a rare event from todays perfomance. Aaron scored our 8th, Chris scored our 9th. Chris scored from a free kick and had the keeper frozen on the spot for our 10th! At 10-1 Meteors had no way of coming back into the game. Shots on goal (Saved, hit the post or off target) from Dom, Jordan, Eddie, Aaron, Andy, Olly, Nico and Ryan.
Free Kicks: 6
Eagles Shots on Goal: 26
Meteors Shots on Goal: 2
Summary:
Everyone deserved praise today, you all worked hard for each other, defended well and never gave up attacking. Some lovely football to start 2011 with, lets hope and ensure it carries on! Well done Meteors, you kept attacking and kept trying to score when the opportunity arose.
Each and everyone of you should be proud of the way you played today. Give your self a pat on the back...
Andrew Bullman, Chris Bristow, Dominic Davidson, Edward Jones, Joe Barlow, Joe Thomas, Jordan Buckley, Lincoln Gidley, Oliver Batty, Robert Lavelle, Ryan Wilkinson, Sean McCormack, Aaron Knight and Travis Brown.
Result: 10-1
Goal Scorers: Chris 3, Dom 2, Aaron 2, Jordan 1, Travis 1, Lincoln 1
MOTM: Dominic Davidson
One player stood out in the first half and some of the second half, Dominic. He never stopped working hard for the team, tackled well, scored twice and at one point had a chance to bag his hat trick, instead passed the ball to a team mate, always looking to set up goal scoring opportunities and passed the ball around extremely well.
