20/11/10 Romans vs Old Strets (AWAY)

20/11/10 Romans vs Old Strets (AWAY)

It was back to Woodsend at the weekend for a league fixture against Old Strets. Without Dylan owing to illness, we had a full squad to choose from and resulted in my final keeper trial of the season with Patrick volunteering in goal!

And again it was time to see some of the players in different positions - so Ellis started in central defence and in the second period, Ethan up front.

We did get into our stride better than recent games but the passing seemed to be missing unlike our best performance from the Benchill game. However it was not long before our pressure told on Old Strets and James getting our first goal from midfield.

All our possession though did not end up in goals - with their keeper making some excellent saves and Romans making the wrong decision - trying a pass when it should be a shot and a shooting when a simple pass was available - some things to work in training...

The next period again started well with Rob getting another goal from his midfield position. It was well played by the defence - Tom, James, Louis, Ellis and Max - that here was only 1 shot I recall for Patrick to save.

For the final period again there was some good play - with Ellis slotting in after his initial shot was saved - and Hamilton scoring with a superb turn and shot.

In the end it finished a deserved 4-0 win for Romans and if we start to play some more simple passes - I think we could win by more. But don't worry - this is something that even the Rooney's and Tevez's make every week. What they do really well is learn by their mistakes.

So a good performance and one that makes me reflect on how far you have come in only our eleventh game of the season.

Some stats for you - of these 11 games - we have won 5, lost 6 - conceding 34 goals and scoring an amazing 42 goals ! And the best thing is - I know you can and will improve as we go through the season if you listen and learn during training and at games. I'm sure we'll play some better teams and I know you will rise to these challenges.

Man of the match today for his overall play, commitment and lovely turn and finish for his goal was Hamilton.
