Pre-Season Friendly: Vs NJ Wythenshawe - KO 6:30pm @ F

Pre-Season Friendly:
Tues 31st Aug - vs NJ Wythenshawe - KO 6:30pm @ Flixton Fields

Match Report:
2 x 40 mins
Ref: Dave Richardson

Starting Sub: Dominic

Our first friendly went quite well and with fewer players available tonight it will be interesting to see if the lads could last 80 mins with only one sub to use with fresh legs.

1st 40 mins:
It was apparent from the KO that NJ Wythenshawe (NJW) were not going to lay down and die! Fast athletic players who gave us a good thrashing in the first 10 mins or so. End to end football with no end result from either team meant that the team who scored the first goal would probably take control of the game. Slowly Eagles got into their stride and started to pass the ball around as they know they can. Eddie shoots, it's saved. Meds awarded a free kick which is defended well. NJW attack that ends up in a Meds GK. Meds attack, Joe B shoots, hits the crossbar, Andy on the rebound shoots high and over! Ooh! NJW attack, throw in, goal kick. Meds attack, Olly shoots, it's blocked. Andy shoots it's saved, Olly rebound chance, it's saved for a Meds corner! From the corner Jordan header is just wide! Meds attack again, Joe B cross to Andy who heads it home! 1-0. Meds win the ball after the NJW KO, and Joe B shoots and it's in! 2-0. Meds attack again not long after the NJW KO, Eddie crosses the ball in, Olly header but it's saved! Meds attack, Jordan shoots, it's saved! Meds attack, Eddie shoots, it's saved! 2 Meds corners that come to nothing, good defending by NJW. NJW attack, NJW shoot, Rob saves. Meds attack, Andy tries a toe poke that does not come off. Meds attack, Joe B tries a long distance shot but it's saved! Meds free kick, Kaelan takes, Andy miss flicks it and the ball goes in the net! Kaelan's goal! 3-0. Another meds attack, Joe B cross and Jordan is there to score, 4-0. NJW attack, we defend well. Meds attack, corner, Olly's header goes over the bar and the half time whistle is blown.
Half Time: 4-0

2nd 40 Mins:
Dom came on to replace injured Nico during the last few minutes of the first half. End to end football for a few minutes, Meds attack ends up in a NJW GK. Another Meds attack, Joe B shoots but it's wide. NJW attack, awarded a free kick which is taken but wide. Meds attack, corner, Kaelan goal! 5-0. Meds win the ball from the NJW KO, Meds attack, Eddie shoots but it's over the bar. Meds attack again, Ryan shoots but wide. Another Meds attack, Andy crosses the ball in and the NJW keeper gathers the ball. Meds attack, Eddie crosses the ball in but wide. NJW free kick, breaks down. Meds attack, Joe B shoots, hits the post, Joe B shoots on the rebound, it ping pongs off defenders and keeper, in the net and out, it's given as a goal! 6-0.
Meds attack from defence, Nico making a great run right up the NJW box but NJW close Nico down. NJW free kick, over the bar. NJW attack, they shoot it's too high. NJW corner, saved by Rob. Meds attack, Olly's shot is blocked. Meds awarded a free kick, Kaelan takes but it's too high. NJW attack, they shoot, Rob saves. Meds attack, Dom shoots but too high. NJW attack, Meds out run by NJW, NJW shot (bullet from close range) and they score what is to be a consolation goal. 6-1. NJW attack, free kick, comes to nothing and the full time whistle is blown.
Full Time: 6-1

Yet again, a good all round performance from everyone. We were a bit sloppy at times and near the last few minutes some of our legs looked to be tired and we could have done with a few more subs. Solid in defence again, midfield players controlling the game using both flanks where possible. Nice to see the goals coming from players in all the outfield positions. Some of the footbal played a real pleasure to watch. One or two things to work on, but nothing major. Well done and keep it up ready for the next friendly away against Irlam Rangers.
