16/10/10 - Romans AWAY to Broadheath
16/10/10 - Romans AWAY to Broadheath
The away game to Broadheath started off a little late owing to some bad directions from the coach - I ended up parking near a scrap metal merchant and having to move the car! Apologies for that - I was given some incorrect directions ....So warm up was a shorter than normal but that didn't prevent the team starting off well.
The team had Tom volunteering in net - James, Dylan and Ham in defence - Ethan and Max in midfield and Rob up front. It was good to see the team start off with good passing and a good tempo- that is players getting to the ball and opponents quickly and passing at pace.
The scoring started off with Max netting a good goal and then Broadheath being penalised for handball in the area. Rob stepped up to take the resultant penalty to make it 2-0 at the end of the first period.
The second half had some changes with Ellis and Pat in Midfield and Alex in defence. The formation was working well with several chances made and the full backs (the defenders on the wings for those not played there) making great runs forward and just as important, running back and covering the defence. The best move of the second period brought a great goal from Max - a superb unselfish pass back from Rob setting him up well.
The third period started with more changes with a new defence in Ham, Ethan and Dylan. It was slightly nerving when Broadheath pulled a good goal back but the team stepped up again and with some great passing from Ellis found Ham - who was playing in defence - in the area to slide home his first goal of the season. There were some great moments of football played too and Pat picked up two goals towards the end - one was a thunderous shot into the top corner that gave the keeper no chance !
All in all it was a brilliant performance from the team who are starting to get the understanding of where each other plays and continuing the passing game that all good teams play.
Good points in the game:
Things to improve
Well done team - as Mike and me have reminded you all - there was some good football played even when we were losing games and you are all improving both individually and as a team - keep it up!
It was difficult to judge the man of the match today - as alot of you played very well - however for his tireless running, good passing and 2 goals today was Max.
Final point for all you players - log-in to this forum and post a comment about the game - if you are not sure how to do it, just ask your parents! It's fun and designed to get you all talking about the game....
