AFC Urmston Meadowside Eagles v Irlam Rangers

With a win behind us, a postponed fixtured last week, it will be interesting to see how the lads perform. 4 subs today and as long as the lads play as well as they did against Benchill they should come away with the points but Irlam will have something to say about that if they can.

Subs: Dom, Joe B, Jordan, Ryan

First Half:
Irlam KO. I was so busy trying to find a pen to write the match report down I missed the first goal by Andy in the first 2 mins! 1-0 to Eagles. Within a minute or two, Olly laid Chris up to score another 2-0. Irlam fight back straight away and score 2-1. Probably 5 mins have gone by and Aaron scores for Eagles making it 3-1. As time goes on Eagles dominated this half with Irlam only getting involved every now and then. Eagles haing 8 shots on goal and Irlam 2 shots on goal. Eagles just kept attacking and Irlam defended well, we could not break them down and it stayed like this until half time.

Second Half:
Eagles KO. End to end football for a while then Eagles attack and a goal scrummage sees Dom shoot, keeper blocks only to see Dom tap it home to make it 4-1. AnotherEagles attack, Dom shoots but it goes over the crossbar, good effort though. Irlam awarded a free kick, their shot goes high. Irlam attack, they shoot, Rob sends it over for a corner. The corner breaks down and Eagles attack, Eagles win a corner, this ends up as another corner that breaks down. Eagles attack again, Aaron shoots, keeper saves. Irlam attack, they win a corner that breaks down. Eagles attack, Joe B shoots, the crossbar rattles! Close, very close! Irlam attack, and due to lack of cover in defence, they score 4-2. Eagles attack, Aaron crosses the bal in and hits the crossbar for a goal kick. Eagles attack again, win a corner, Aaron shoots but it's high. Irlam attack, they shoot and it's over the bar. Eagles attack, Aaron crosses the ball in from the wing and Jordan flick just misses the goal! Eagles attack, Klev crosses the ball in and the keeper gathers the ball in. Eagles attack, Aaron shoots but it's cleared. Two Eagles corners later and a goal is due. Jordan is in the right place for a nice cross in to head it home to make it 5-2. Irlam not giving up and attack, they shoot, Rob saves. Another Irlam attack and this time their shot hits the target and it's 5-3. Eagles reply with an attack, Ryan shoots, keeper pushes the ball over for a corner. The corner is cleared but not for long. The next goal is possibly Eagles best of the game today, the ball passed from defence to forwards with some lovely movement and crisp passing to see Joe B strike it home to make it 6-3 and a minute or two after Irlam KO again, the full time whistle is blown.

Not quite the same performance as the Benchill fixture. Most of the team were playing in 3rd gear and needed to step it up a notch or two and the result may have been different. Yes, 3 points in the bag and our goal difference back to square one does help. But, the whole team needs to defend as one unit to help stop the opposition scoring. We used all our subs and in some cases we were forced to sub. Some players coming off due to injuries or needing a breather. Well done, what is nice to see is our goals were scored by six players.

Result: 6-3

Goal Scorers: Aaron 1, Andy 1, Chris 1, Dom 1, Jordan 1, Joe B 1
