Last Match
On a wide open pitch on Hough End the team playing with the wind were always going to end up on top but the 8-2 scoreline flattered Hough End Griffins and does not tell the whole story.
The first period saw a strong Spartak team with the wind behind them take a 2-0 lead. Joe Mason scored the first with what I am sure will be the first many goals us and continued to be a real threat throughout the period with some skilful touches. Dan Willis added the second with another great finish into the bottom corner to put himself clear at the top of the goalscoring charts. There were many great moves in this period with Sam, Charlie and Alice in particular showing good passing and attacking skills.
The second period saw a reversal of fortunes as Hough End took advantage of the wind behind them to take a 4-2 lead. We were particularly unlucky when the referee deemed the ball to have crossed the line from the half way line in a period when Theo was in outstanding form - catching several shots and turning another two around the post. Despite the wind in their faces Spartak produced several fine attacking moves in this period with Jospeh and Dylan playing their part in this period. In difficult conditions this was a delight to see from a coaching point of view.
A mis-understanding with the toss-up at the start of the third period saw Hough End remain with the wind at their back and take further advantage. Spartak put in a lot of attacking effort in this period which allowed Hough End to attack on the break and add a further four goals to their total. Adam took his turn in goal in this period and on one occassion had face five Hough End players bearing down on his goal.
Despite the scoreline this was one of the best performances I have seen from Spartak. I would like to a give special mention to Sam who was an example to all showing fantastic commitment to the team by playing out of position and putting in great effort. If we can work on our defending skills in training then the attacking abilities we have in abundance will see our efforts rewarded.
