Spartak romp to best away win
This week Spartak were challenged to maintain their excellent start to the season with an away game at Timperley Athletic. The end result was more than the coaches could have dreamt of as every player stepped up to the mark in style and came away as 11-0 winners.
In the first half Spartak lined up with George back this week in goal and the tried and tested defence of Connor, Dylan and Jack. The midfield saw Alice on the left, Dan on the right and Sam partnering Luke, making his first start, in the centre. Theo started as the lone striker.
Spartak set the tempo for the game early with good tackling to gain control of the ball before attacking with some superb passing and running both on and off the ball which Timperley found hard to live with. It wasn’t long before Spartak took the lead with a corner from Alice being played on into the penalty area and Theo was on hand to fire in from close range to make it 1-0. This was followed closely by a deep cross from the right by Dan and Luke was then on the spot to stab home to double the Spartak lead.
A double substitution brought Joseph on in place of Theo up front and Joe replaced Luke in midfield but this did not stop the rhythm of Spartak’s play. Joseph was soon on the score sheet as he chased down a Timperley defender on the edge of the box before dispossessing him and firing in a superb shot over the keeper. Joe also then got in on the act with Spartak breaking quickly he placed a powerful shot past the keeper from the edge of the box. Dan rounded off the first half with the best goal of the half as he ran from the half way line leaving Timperley defenders in his wake and shooting in from the edge of the box. Spartak went to the half time break comfortably leading 5-0.
More of the same
The same team that finished the first half also started the second as Spartak looked to continue with the excellent play seen in the first. The next goal was something of a collector’s item as a cross from Alice was deflected high into the box and Dan was on hand to head in to the net. Dan buoyed by this soon grabbed his hat-trick with a cross cum shot from the right eluded the Timperley keeper at his near post.
Joseph and Connor made way for Theo and Luke to return to the action before Luke had to be quickly replaced by Conner after getting injured in a tackle. Alice then capped her fine performance with two quick goals. The first was a fantastic volley from just inside the box following Joe’s corner, and the second a long range shot from the edge of the box which flew into the top corner to make it 9-0.
Spartak pressed on
As legs tired Timperley had a couple of promising attacks but Spartak were equal to these. A long clearance out of defence saw Dan stop the ball going out on the right before putting in a low cross for Theo to convert neatly in off the near post. The final move of the game saw Spartak breaking quickly and Theo held up the ball well before playing in Joe on the edge of the box and another powerful shot made the final score 11-0.
This was an outstanding performance from Spartak. The hard work in training and encouragement from the coaches is really paying off. The defence were in good form again working hard to tackle and cover for each other. Where there were lapses in concentration these were corrected and Timperley players closed down quickly. The same was seen from the midfielders, led by Sam, who were in control from the first whistle as they won the ball well and then used it to great effect playing it wide and getting forward with pace to support the attack.
