League - AFC Urmston Meadowside Eagles v Urmston Town Panthers

Mon 9th May 2011 - KO 5:45pm

Our last Derby of the season and it's against Urmston Town! We met earlier on in the season and Dom scored the winner back then. Can we beat them again? After playing a fixture on Thursday and Sunday before tonight, tired legs may have something to say about the result!

Subs: Kaelan, Aaron, Clevon, Sean
Dom injured (back injury)

First Half:
I was actually bored for most of this half, our performance was not quite as good as it had been in previous recent fixtures. Panthers looked like they were ready to walk all over us, but in fact did little other than midfield possession football. Not many chances were created by either team in this half. 6 shots for Eagles and 5 for Panthers. I think this shows why I was bored! Panthers were closing us down and killing any chance of a good football game, we were closing Panthers down and ditto! Our chances came from Chris, Eddie and Kaelan. Eddie had the best chance for Eagles and hit the post! AAAGGGGHHHH! The whistle blown and this half ended 0-0. Yawn!

Second Half:
Ahh at last, things looked a bit more like it! End to end football, chances for both teams and then Aaron sends in a cross for Kaelan to finish off and he scores! 1-0. Looking at my notes, Eagles were starting to wake up, chances were being made and Panthers attacking as and when they could. As often happens in some of our games when we go one goal up, the opposition get an equaliser! And Panthers did just that! A very soft goal to give away from some silly midfield and defensive errors! 1-1 and game on for either team! Now the game heats up, and chances come for both teams, but we look the most likely to score next and we do! Travis gets his foot to a ball and sends it goal bound and it takes a deflection off a defender and this sends the keeper the wrong way! 2-1. About 4 minutes left of the game and Panthers attack, they shoot over the bar! Eagles attack, we get two corners and then the whistle is blown! After 8 shots for Eagles and 5 shots for Panthers, this half was a little better than the first half, overall I think Eagles deserved the win due to sticking to the task at hand and working through the pain barrier!

Result: 2-1 smile

A great 3 points and you all had to work very hard for it. Well done to everyone who put in a great performance today considering most of you had played football 4 or 5 days on the trot!

Goal Scorers: Travis 1, Kaelan 1
