League - Eagles v Meteors

League - AFC Urmston Meadowside Eagles v AFC Urmston Meadowside Meteors

Sun 3rd April 2011 - KO 10:30 (Flixton Fields)

Subs: Aaron, Lincoln, Dom, Eddie, Clevon

Cloudy today with the odd shower of rain, the sun trying to peek through. The pitch had dried out over the past few days and last nights rain had not softened the goal areas from last week! We don't expect todays result to be any where near last weeks result with Meteors now fielding a full team.

First Half:
Eagles did their usual attack from the start, only to see Meteors break and take a shot on goal which Rob saved for a corner. Meteors had a good 5 mins or so and then Eagles settle in to their game. Shots coming in from Chris, Ryan, Travis, Andy, Joe B and Aaron. But it was Joe Thomas who fired home Eagles first goal, a lovely strike from just outside the box into the bottom corner of the net! 1-0. Eagles dominated this half but Meteors did well to keep our shots on goal down to 8 whilst Meteors had two chances on goal. Lots of play in the midfield and not a lot happening down the wings for us today. Some nice football but with no result at the end or unsure what to do next with the ball. The half time whistle blown and it's time to step up a gear.

Team talk given, drinks drunk, changes made and we expect a better performance from this half.

Second Half:
Eagles settled in to some nice football and our second goal came from a cross from Aaron who found Chris to meg the keeper to make it 2-0. Meteors attack that ends up as a goal kick. Then we are awarded a free kick just outside the box for a pass back that wasn't! Lincoln shoots a cracker and the keeper saves for a corner! From here on Eagles dominated yet again and Meteors breaking free when they can. Eagles performance was much better in this half and so was Meteors. This was an 'entertaining' game but not due to the football being played but because of the decisions from the guy in black with the whistle! it was a while before we scored goal number three, Clevon shoots, keeper saves but palms it away to see Chris follow up to tap it home. 3-0. 13 Shots on goal for Eagles from Chris, Lincoln, Eddie, Dom, Clevon, Andy and Aaron, Meteors increased their shots on goal to 3 in this half. Full time whistle blown and time to go home for mothers day!

Summary:
Yet again we needed the 3 points and we needed a reasonable goal difference, and another clean sheet always helps, so yet again we are happy with the result. Well done to Meteors who battled hard and put in a great performance. Eagles performance was not good enough for this division in the first half, but stepped it up in the second half. Well done everyone and keep up the work rate.

Result: 3-0 smile

Goal Scorers: Chris 2, Joe T 1
